Brake pads: 5 signs they need replacing
Brake pads wear down every time you stop. Catching them early is cheaper and safer.
1. Squealing or squeaking: many pads have a small metal tab that squeals when they are getting thin.
2. Grinding: a harsh metallic noise often means the pad material is gone and metal is touching the disc — stop driving and get it checked.
3. Longer stopping or a soft pedal: the car takes more distance to stop, or the pedal travels further than usual.
4. Vibration or pulling: shaking through the pedal or steering, or the car pulling to one side, can point to worn discs or a sticking caliper.
5. Warning light: some cars have a pad-wear sensor that lights up on the dashboard.
Replacing pads early usually saves the discs. Request quotes on MYLES — many brake jobs can be done at a workshop or at your place.
