What is water pump replacement?
A leaking or noisy water pump is replaced to keep coolant circulating and the engine cool.
The water pump circulates coolant through the engine. Bearings wear and seals leak with age. On many engines the pump is driven by the timing belt, so they are often replaced together.
Signs you need it
- Coolant leak at the front of the engine
- Whining or grinding noise
- Overheating
- Steam from the engine
How it works
- Drain coolant
- Remove belts or timing parts
- Fit the new pump and gasket
- Refill, bleed and test
This service is carried out at a workshop.
