What is cof inspection?
A Certificate of Fitness is the regular safety inspection required for heavy vehicles and vehicles used commercially, such as trucks, buses and some passenger services.
A COF inspection is more detailed than a WOF and is carried out at approved testing stations. It covers brakes, steering, suspension, structure, lighting, emissions and any specialist equipment fitted to the vehicle. Passing allows the vehicle to keep operating legally.
Signs you need it
- Your COF is due to expire
- The vehicle is being used commercially for the first time
- You have repaired a fault found at a previous inspection
How it works
- Booking at an approved COF station
- Full safety and structural inspection
- Brake performance test
- Pass certificate or a list of required repairs
This service is carried out at a workshop.
How much does it cost?
The exact price depends on your vehicle and the job. On MYLES, each professional shows a fixed price, a starting price, a range, or sends a quote — so you can compare like for like before you book.
- Vehicle size and class
- Specialist equipment that must be checked
