What is wheel stud replacement?
Damaged or broken wheel studs need replacing so your wheels stay securely attached.
Wheel studs are the threaded bolts that hold your wheel to the hub. They can stretch, strip or snap from over-tightening, corrosion or a loose wheel. A mechanic presses out the damaged stud and fits a new one so the wheel nut can be tightened to the correct torque.
Signs you need it
- A wheel nut will not tighten
- A stud is broken or missing
- Threads are damaged or cross-threaded
How it works
- Remove the wheel and brake parts if needed
- Press out the damaged stud
- Fit the new stud
- Refit and torque the wheel
You can choose a workshop visit or have a professional come to your home, work or depot.
How much does it cost?
The exact price depends on your vehicle and the job. On MYLES, each professional shows a fixed price, a starting price, a range, or sends a quote — so you can compare like for like before you book.
- Number of studs
- Access to the back of the hub
- Corrosion on the hub
Tips
- Have wheel nuts tightened with a torque wrench, not just an impact gun
- Re-check wheel nuts after the first 50 km
Why it matters
Important: a missing stud puts extra load on the others.
